Did you have enough communication before the event to answer all of your questions? If not, what was missing?

Yes - maybe an email with details about what is provided, when to arrive, where to park. This was probably communicated to the school community and we were tagging along with this. I was able to call and get all the info I needed.

How was the awards ceremony?

Great

What can be improved for 2019?

It was so much fun, not sure how it could have been better

This is such a fantastic and fun thing for kids to do. And a great lesson in starting a business. We hope to participate every year!

How did you hear about the Children's Business Fair?

Through Acton

Did you have enough communication before the event to answer all of your questions? If not, what was missing?

No, we felt very much in the dark regarding the details of the event that were key to our Eagle’s success. Our Eagles needed to know how much product to prepare, what the set-up was going to be at the farmer’s market location, how long they would actually need to remain there at the fair, what was being provided by Acton and what they were responsible for (like they had no idea that they were responsible for bringing change!), and pretty much every practical detail I can think of! It seemed like they knew a lot about the theory of starting a business, and they had a lot of fun creating products and a business name, but they were ill prepared for the actual implementation.

How was the awards ceremony?

The awards ceremony seemed like an afterthought. Our Eagles didn’t even know there were awards or what they would be judged based upon, and the execution of the ceremony seemed unprepared. It also would have been nice to offer a certificate, maybe noting a specific, individualized accomplishment, for each business present.

What can be improved for 2019?

1. Better, more detailed and more (quantity) communication from the very beginning of the session
2. more practical learning of the running of the business during the quest periods, such as role playing how to count back change to a customer, a dry-run of the actual fair itself for families or other Eagles, everything I mentioned above, etc.
3. A more thought-out execution of the actual fair, such as setting up the booths so that every business was visible, having the Acton sign out in front where more people could see it, letting the Eagles know from the beginning what would be considered “important” and be judged at the fair, a manager/leader who could go from booth to booth to answer questions, provide feedback, and basically train them on basic business etiquette, as well as help them tally earnings versus expenses to determine profit.
4. A more inclusive (and better explained) rewards ceremony, with more pomp and circumstance, so the Eagles feel their hard work is being taken seriously, as well as certificates of achievement for each business (personalized would be best), and an explanation up front, to both Eagles and parents, for the reasons an Eagle would not be awarded their badge for the quest (since it was very awkward and confusing that so many kids didn’t receive badges with no explanation).

Any other feedback?

Thank you for this opportunity. We feel it is a great concept and has potential but wasn’t executed as well as it could have been.
